Student environment group champion eco-friendly school tie.
On the day the government announced more measures to ban plastics our environment group took a major step in St Katherine’s drive to protect the planet.
Hannah, Ellie-Mai, Louis and Edie who are all in Year 7 – plus Mr Humphreys and Mrs Ball – checked out an eco-friendly version of the school tie – each tie is made from two recycled plastic bottles. The new ties passed muster and the group unaminously agreed that the school adopt them as soon as possible.
It is the first action taken by the environment group who came together after the visit of a coffee and cocoa grower from Nicaragua during Fairtrade Fortnight in Term 4. They learnt how actions taken locally can have an impact on the environment and other people around the world and are keen to promote more eco-friendly projects in school.
Note to parents/carers: Good news is that the eco ties cost the same as the current ties. Bad news is there are no guarantees they won’t get lost!
