Sock puppets, Argonauts and the Classics
The English department have a busy Term 3 full of varied, stimulating experiences for students
Students in Years 7 and 8 enjoyed a magical quest for the mythical golden fleece courtesy of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Their producation of Jason and the Argonauts entranced students with its high energy action sequences whilst simultaneously giving students time to reflect on the plight of refugees in our world today. A life-affirming performance reminded us that it is okay to be different.
Year 9 students explored the concept of mass hysteria and the idea of political witch hunts as they studied Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.
Our A Level Literature students got creative, using puppert theatre to explore characterisation in Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea plus a visit to the Bristol Universty Classics Hub was the latest part of the English Faculty’s pioneering work to ensure all students, not just those in the private sector, have the opportunity to study classics.
