Houses of Parliament trip
Students learn about democracy in the seat of UK government
Last week 30 students from Years 7. 9 and 13 visited the Houses of Parliament.
As well as visiting the Commons Debating Chamber ( which is a lot smaller than it looks on the TV!) and having a chance to stand at the dispatch box, students enjoyed a lively debate in one of the select committee rooms and explored the issues surrounding lowering the voting age.
Students also took part in a democracy workshop where they formed their own parties, wrote some manifesto pledges and worked out how best to fund them. In line with the national picture the vote that followed resulted in a hung parliament!
