Holocaust Memorial Day 2025
St Katherine’s School was honoured to join the global community in marking Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January 2025. This solemn occasion commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and stands as a poignant reminder of the importance of tolerance, understanding, and humanity. This year’s commemoration holds particular significance as it marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest and most infamous Nazi concentration camp of the Second World War.
To ensure this milestone is respectfully observed and meaningful lessons are shared with our school community, St Katherine’s will host a series of assemblies throughout the week with this as the main focus. These assemblies aim to educate and inspire students and staff alike, shedding light on the atrocities of the Holocaust while honouring the resilience of survivors and the memory of those who perished. In addition to the assemblies, tutor groups will engage in reflective activities during tutor time. These sessions are designed to deepen students’ understanding of the historical events surrounding the Holocaust and the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, while fostering an environment for thoughtful discussion and personal reflection.
