Gymnastics success!
At the end of April Year 13 students Amelie Morgan and Phoebe Jakubczyk competed for Great Britain at the Artistic Gymnastics European Championships in Switzerland, an Olympic trial event.
In qualification both girls put in solid performances across all four pieces - vault, uneven bars, beam and floor. Phoebe was competing in her first major championships and had a late call up so to produce performances of that standard in those circumstances was very special.
Amelie smashed her uneven bars and beam routines during qualification and made the individual finals for those pieces. In addition, she also qualified for the all-around finals. In all of the commentary and punditry, everyone was commenting on how reliable and consistent her performances were. Amelie certainly lived up to that reputation in the finals where she finished fourth in Europe for the all-around and for the beam. Amelie's best performance came in the uneven bars where she finished in third position claiming a European Championships bronze medal - that's third in the whole of Europe!
We're all hugely proud of the girls' achievements, they are fantastic role models and we wish them both the very best of luck with their gymnastics and future endeavours as they leave St Katherine's - stay in touch!
