Girls Rounders v Gordano
Years 7 – 10 in rounders action v local rivals Gordano
Wednesday 10 May 2017
Year 7: St Kath’s 18 – 15 Gordano
Year 9: St Kath’s 15 – 12 Gordano
With depleted numbers on both sides the game was always going to be an open one, with plenty of space for the batters to aim for. St Kath’s won the toss and opted to field first. Nicole Ryan bowled extremely well, giving nothing away to the Gordano side. The Gordano side were striking the ball well, but the deep field of Grace Brown and Priscilla Lumoso were up to the task, fielding well to Izzy Fielden at 2nd post. Ruby Webber at backstop and Ellie McIntyre at 1st post were a great combination, resulting in a number of stumpings of the Gordano batters. Towards the end of their innings, they were left with only 2 batters left, but they managed to bat all 30 balls and score in total a respectable 12.
During their batting innings, St Kath’s made an immediate impact with ½ rounders from Priscilla and Grace and rounders from Ruby and Izzy. The Gordano side were struggling to get a bowling combination right and the St Kath’s side benefited from their errors. Great team efforts in gaining plenty of ½’s and further rounders by Ruby and Priscilla resulted in an excellent 15 rounders and the Year 9’s first victory of the season. Ruby Webber was voted as player of the match.
Year 10: St Kath’s 13 – 12 Gordano
With both sides fielding strong teams this was always going to be a close battle. With Gordano batting first, it was a fine balance between strong hits by the Gordano side and excellent fielding between the deep fielders; Bo Marshall, Faye Morris and Tara Harvey and 2nd post Lauren Toms. Megan Griffiths was her usual strong and accurate self at backstop and gave little chance to those that missed the ball, making a great combination with 1st post Lexie Fitzgerald.
The batting innings was another story of great batting vs great fielding, however the St Kath’s side were able to score with some excellent strikes particularly by Leesha, Bo and Tara. The game remained close throughout and it went down to the last ball. The score was 12 – 12 and Elise Wear faced the ominous task, hitting her ball backwards and restricting her to waiting at 1st until the ball was fielded past the batting line by the backstop. This was going to be a matter of accuracy vs speed and Elise won, causing the Gordano fielder to make an error and allowed Elise to score the winning point. Player of the match was voted as Bo Marshall.
