Girls Netball v Sidcot
10 & 11 girls victorious in matches against Sidcot School
Year 11
St Kath’s: 7 – 4: Sidcot
Having already played in their final tournament last week the girls travelled to Sidcot for their final fixture.
The first half got off to a slow start with both sides being particularly careful of the wet conditions underfoot. The ball was end to end, with Athea Heavens and Freya Gorely working hard to cut down the Sidcot chances. Ashleigh Wills worked hard to get the ball from defence to attack and was assisted well by Macy Sealey and Eve Wilson. Both teams missed some chances but at half time the score was close at 3- 2 in St Kath’s favour.
In the second half the introduction of Antonia Khalif sparked some pace in the game and the St Kath’s side, with the sharp shooting of Morgan McDonnell and Hannah Tuckwell, they began to edge away from the Sidcot side. Despite some last minute pressure from the Sidcot side he team managed to complete the season with a convincing victory and player of the match was voted as Antonia Khalif.
Year 10
St Kath’s: 12 – 8: Sidcot
With a number of regular players unavailable it was necessary for the Year 10 St Kath’s side to flexible in their playing positions against Sidcot. In difficult playing positions the first quarter went well with the St Kath’s side leading 4 – 2, with Lauren Dun playing well in the centre, supported well by Megan Griffiths and Faith Clarke. In the second quarter the St Kath’s side were under considerable pressure and the Sidcot side played well to finish the half at 4 – 4.
With a slight change of positions the side began to take control of the game, with Bo Marshall effective in the centre and Lauren Dun and Hannah Chapman effective in the shooting circle. Despite taking a lead, it was still important for Leesha Coleman and Louise Thomas to be tight in defence and they were successful in keeping out the Sidcot attack, despite lots of pressure.
At the final whistle the score was a 12 – 8 victory for St Kath’s and player of the match was voted as Bo Marshall. The girls take this positive momentum into their tournament next week.
