Community minded St Kaths students raise funds for vital...
Our sixth form and Student Council have been supporting local, regional and international charities with their fundraising efforts
Our students raised nearly £400 from the St Katherine’s Christmas lunch for the Julian Trust and Help Refugees UK. Our community-minded student council nominated the charities to help homeless people in Bristol and those affected by the global refugee crisis.
Alex Leakey from the student council said, “The student council are very aware that the world isn’t a great place for many people, often through no fault of their own. We really wanted to help, especially at Christmas time. While many of us were enjoying the festive season we wanted to highlight two of the most challenging issues that blight the lives of millions of adults and children in the UK and around the world.”
The sixth form chose local charity Penny Brohn for their fundraising efforts during RAG week . Daily events including karoake, a table football tournament and even a zombie apocalypse day raised £225 for the cancer support charity in Pill.
Penny Brohn UK community fundraiser Mr Riddell said: “We were delighted to have the support of a great school in our community and hope to keep working together in the future. The money could pay for 10 people to attend one of our healthy cooking demonstrations so they can learn to eat healthy and delicious food while dealing with the impact of cancer.”
