9 Boys Football v Chew Valley
Boys come up against strong Chew Valley side in Somerset Cup
After a number of cancellations the game finally got the go ahead and St Katherine’s travelled over to Chew Valley who have always had a good pedigree for Football in the Somerset region.
Chew Valley started brightly and they looked dangerous breaking through the defence of St Katherine’s at will. Their Pacey striker scored in the first ten minutes and after that it was one way traffic with Josh Songer in goal managing to deny them on numerous occasions. St Katherine’s started to get back into the game and a corner found Kaie Lawrence on the edge of the box who struck the ball back into the penalty area for George Hardwell to score a fantastic overhead kick into the top corner to equalize.
The game ebbed and flowed and both teams had chances to go ahead with Reece Palmer looking dangerous up front for St Katherine’s. Just before half time Chew Valley scored again with a well taken goal.
The second half saw the re-introduction of Chew Valley’s centre forward who proceeded to score two more goals to complete his hat trick and dominate the game. Two more goals followed as St Katherine’s crumbled against a very good Chew Valley team.
Despite this St Katherine’s continued to work had to the end of the game. There were some strong performances from Reece Palmer, Kaie Lawrence, Ethan Eggleston and George Hardwell who impressed in a difficult game. The boys should not be disheartened and there is plenty of football left in the season to improve.
