10 Primary Tri-Golf Leaders
Year 10 students lead primary tri-golf festival for over 200 youngsters
Such is the calibre of the sports leaders at St Katherine’s that they were called upon once again to support a local primary school event, this time it was tri-golf. The activity allows primary school children to get as close to the sport of golf as possible using modified equipment better suited to their age. For our students this was an activity that was completely new to them and would test their leadership skills in a different way.
Even though the opportunity only arose at short notice we were bombarded with year 10 sport students who wanted to lead at the event; so much so that we were having to turn people away on the day for lack of space on the minibus! They didn’t have much time to prepare themselves and were thrown in at the deep end on an extremely cold & windy day out at BGS playing fields.

St Katherine’s students led the primary aged children through a number of mini games and activities each with a scoring element. All fifteen competing teams were challenged to tackle eight skills stations, scoring points for successful chips and putts. After an hour and a half of activity Northleaze Primary were crowned gold medallists, Mead Vale silver medallists and Becket Bronze medallists. The leaders set up, explained, demonstrated and officiated each activity station and encouraged the children as best they could during the less than summery weather conditions!
As always our leaders received great feedback and Mr German (North Somerset School Sports Manager) expressed his thanks to our leaders.
“ A really big thank you to the students and staff of St Katherine’s School for stepping in at very short notice to provide the invaluable leadership support required! ”
Well done to everyone for representing St Katherine’s so brilliantly yet again!
Mr Thomas
